What You Need To About Contact Lens Solution

Are you going to be wearing contacts rather than glasses? There are a few things you should know about contact care. Some contacts like the gas permeable lenses require a weekly cleaning, while the soft lenses require a daily solution. Many eye doctors will have solutions sitting on their counters that they use or sell. It is important to know which contact solution works best for you. Your doctor will have some suggestions, but it is up to you to make the final decision in which contact lens solution you use.

The gas permeable contact solutions require a soaking of at least twelve hours once a week to remove the protein that builds up from having a permanent contact. The gas permeable contacts usually last for a year before you will need to replace them. The other solution you will need is a daily solution. This solution is for soaking your contacts over night so they will not dry out as well as lubricating the lens before putting it in your eye.

For soft lenses you just need to have the daily rinsing solution. These solutions are now a no rub solution, which means you will not have to rub your lenses to remove particles. The previous solutions required a daily rinsing solution and a rubbing solution to clean the particles. Soft contact lenses are very thin and easily tear so not having to use a rubbing solution is important. You will want to read the information on the box to learn the chemicals in the solution. Most are a simple saline solution that is gentle on your eye. If you experience any problems with the solution, like it doesn’t remove the particles properly you can try another solution or ask your eye doctor for advice on what you can try next.

A couple of contact lens solutions available are Renue and Alcon. Both contact solutions have a no rub solution as well as the older versions. It is best to understand the process of solutions before making your choice. When you use contact lenses you run the risk of eye infections if you do not take proper care of them, wear them too long, or wear them to sleep when it is not recommended.

Aside from the being able to cleanse, disinfect and rinse, the liquid formulation can also be utilized as lubricant. If your eye is feeling dry you can always place a few drops on the lens and then reinsert it or you may try allergy drops before you place the contact in your eye.
